Age & Gender breakdown
Today we saw the introduction of 4 new reports within Google Analytics focussing on demographic information about our audience.
The new reports give us access to new information about our visitors such as…
- Age
- Gender
- Affinity to a particular category or genre
- Other Categories
Previously this “human level” data hasn’t been available to us Web Analytics geeks, the reports have been made possible through a collaboration between Google’s Advertising Display Network, and Google Analytics.
This information about a user is only an estimate, but it’s based on the clever profiling process Google uses to power their Display Network.
Obviously we’re very early days with these new reports but I can imagine using this data in a few ways…
- Remarketing based on Age and Gender… imagery could be better targeted to different segments of your audience.
- Better user Personas and understanding of our customers and WHY they are on our website.
- Tailoring our content and calls to action based on these personas and their likelihood to convert.
I’m looking forward to digging further in to this information to find insights for our customers, if you have ideas for using these reports let us know in the comments below.
Why can’t I find any evidence of this new update anywhere else. Can you provide the source please, an official Google announcement or something?
Hi John,
This update is slowly rolling out to all users, some of our accounts have access, others don’t. Google haven’t made it clear when everyone will have access, but keep checking back and it will appear at some point.
You can see Google’s support article on the new reports over here… https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2799357?hl=en
